Formed at the end of the 1980s, Ride was one of the most exciting forces on the U.K. indie scene, signing with the legendary Creation Records and quickly emerging at the forefront of the British shoegaze movement. Like other bands in “the scene that celebrates itself,” the Oxford group coaxed beauty out of noise built on walls of guitar effects; what distinguished Ride from their peers was the ability to channel all that atmospheric haze through accessible song structures. OX4 THE BEST OF RIDE provides 15 shining examples of this drawn from each of the band's studio recordings, from their early EPs (“Chelsea Girl,” “Like A Daydream”), their acclaimed 1990 debut album (“Vapour Trail”) and three subsequent longplayers (“Twisterella,” “Birdman,” “Black Nite Crash”). The original quartet has reunited and is now on tour, and we've brought OX4 THE BEST OF RIDE back into print to welcome them to our shores.
