It's somehow fitting that FUNHOUSE was produced by Don Gallucci of The Kingsmen, whose “Louie Louie” is loud, crude and unstoppable just like The Stooges' 1970 album. Gallucci brought the Ann Arbor, MI quartet (and saxophonist Steve Mackay) to Los Angeles, where they worked up a song a day more or less live-in-studio. The approach worked brilliantly; the performances and songs, such as “Down On The Street,” “T.V. Eye,” “1970” and the title track, are even more powerful than the band's pioneering debut. Jack White once said the seminal set was “by proxy the definitive rock album of America,” and FUNHOUSE has just been reissued on limited edition red opaque/black (half & half) vinyl for Rocktober 2022.
