Grateful Dead had just gotten started on their spring tour of 1978 when they reached Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University in North Carolina - but they were already firing on all cylinders. “It was clear from the first 10 minutes of the show that something special was happening,” notes band archivist David Lemieux, and from both the superb sound and outstanding performances (including epic versions of “U.S. Blues,” “Rhythm Devils” and the immortal “Truckin'”), this is among the best ever from the Godchaux-era line-up. The previously unreleased DUKE ‘78 LIVE includes both of the evening’s sets in their entirety, and we’ll fire it up now to wish guitarist Bob Weir a happy birthday.
