On this day in 2022, Joni Mitchel thrilled fans with a surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival – her first public performance in nearly 20 years. Continuing a remarkable recovery from a life-threatening brain aneurysm in 2015, Mitchell joined a star-studded band led by singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, who co-produced the live recording of the event, AT NEWPORT. Its dozen tracks include classics like “Big Yellow Taxi,” “A Case Of You,” and “Both Sides Now” (and for good measure, Joni’s solo guitar version of “Just Like This Train”).
