We Won’t Rest ‘Til Everyone Owns R.E.M.’s Unplugged 1991/2001: The Complete Sessions
First we released it on limited-edition vinyl for Free Record Store Day, and then we released it digitally and on CD. Now, on September 2, we’re doubling back and reissuing those sessions on vinyl. In short, we here at Rhino Records will not rest until everyone has the opportunity to purchase their very own copy of R.E.M.’s Unplugged 1991/2001: The Complete Sessions.
Okay, we’re kidding. (Well, mostly.) But if you’re currently grumbling about having gone out of your way to get the limited-edition version, only to suddenly find it far less limited of an edition than you’d heretofore believed, keep it together: you’ve still got yourself a collector’s item, because we’re releasing the 1991 and 2001 sessions independently of each other this time around.
Interestingly, though, we were just scanning over the press release, and we couldn’t help but notice this intriguing little paragraph that’s been tacked onto the end of it: “These two-LP sets serve to foreshadow another monumental release from R.E.M. coming later in the year that will dig further into the vaults of MTV. Look for more information to be announced soon.” Hmmmmmmm…
Just in case you don’t yet have the set lists memorized at this point, here’s how the track listings will play out for the two releases:
