Rhino Love Songs: Alternative

As Valentine’s Day week rolls onward, Rhino’s back with another thematically-appropriate playlist, i.e. all of the songs are about love. This time, we decided to put together a collection featuring the sort of material that, once upon a time, you’d find on college radio stations. They’ve called it modern rock, post-modern, and at one point even tried to take the word “progressive” back from bands like Yes and ELP (it didn’t take), but for the most part, it still tends to be known by the blanket term of “alternative music.” Of course, the descriptor more or less fell apart when bands that had previously been used to define the genre suddenly became mainstream, but who cares? Once you start listening, you’ll get an idea where we were coming from when we put it together, so just sit back and enjoy the music.
