Indian musician and composer Ravi Shankar passed away on December 11 at the age of 92. Credited with bringing world music to the mainstream after he influenced the likes of The Beatles, the Byrds, and many more, Shankar spent his early years under the tutelage of Allauddin Khan, studying the sitar and surbahar before bringing their sounds West. After taking Beatle George Harrison under his wing in 1966, he would become "the most famous Indian musician on the planet.”
