Now Available: The Grateful Dead, Fare Thee Well

Back in the summer, we had a good chuckle when we posted the details on how to pre-order a copy of The Grateful Dead's new live album, Fare Thee Well, and prefaced them by musing, “It takes a seriously momentous concert event for folks to start getting psyched about pre-ordering a copy of the live audio document of a show before it's even taken place.”

As you know, the final shows by the surviving members of the Dead - by which we mean Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart - took place on June 27 and 28 at Santa Clara's Levi Stadium and on July 3, 4, and 5 at Chicago's Soldier Field, and the response was as substantial as had been expected, with the pay-per-view event setting a new record for music events with 400,000 subscriptions. (Please note that it surpassed the previous record-holder by more than 240,000 subscribers. Take that, Backstreet Boys!)
