Now Available: HARRY POTTER: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACKS I-V
The Harry Potter film franchise may be over and done (unless you count the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films, which we do), but the memories of that magical cinematic rollercoaster ride linger on. Mind you, it wasn’t just what we saw on the screen that made the movies so great: the music was also masterful, thanks to the work of such noted composers as Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and John Williams.
For those who’ve enjoyed spinning the soundtracks to the Harry Potter films over the years, you’ll be pleased to know that today marks the arrival of a new limited-edition box set which features the soundtracks to the first five films pressed on vinyl picture discs.
That’s a 10-LP set, but there’s more to the proceedings than just the music. Each soundtrack is contained in a gatefold sleeve that is die-cut on both sides, and the images used for the picture discs are stills taken from the related films. Well, most of them are, anyway: the one exception is Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix, which also features an etching on the last side of the LP. There’s also a bonus download card, so you can get the digital version of each set, too.
Here’s what you get in the set:
• Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) – composed by John Williams
• Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) – composed by John Williams
• Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) – composed by John Williams
• Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) – composed by Patrick Doyle
• Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix (2007) – composed by Nicholas Hooper
Just as a side note, yes, the soundtrack for Goblet of Fire does indeed include the three tracks by the band that is definitely not called the Weird Sisters but which does feature Jarvis Cocker, Steve Mackey, Jonny Greenwood, and Phil Selway in its lineup.
As noted, the HARRY POTTER: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACKS I-V box set is available now. Just don’t go shouting, “ACCIO!” Record stores generally frown on new releases floating out the door without stopping at the cash register first.
