Going for Gold: Crosby, Stills & Nash
28 years ago today, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash – with a little help from Neil Young – released a box set devoted to their careers together up to that point, one which was so highly anticipated that it went gold right out of the gate.
Entitled simply CSN, this set featured 67 tracks spread across four discs and took the unique musical position of spotlighting the work done by Crosby, Stills, and Nash as a trio as well as the work they’d done independently and with each other, but because of the significant difficulty involved in trying to use Young’s solo work and his collaborations with Stills at the time (it got better), it’s clear that there was never any chance of turning it into a proper CSNY box set.
That said, the end result is still a tremendous look back at the work done by Crosby, Stills & Nash, to be sure, and it provides a more in-depth exploration of their catalog that a casual listener can get from their various single-disc anthologies.
Alas, the CSN box set isn’t currently available for streaming in its original form, but we’ve done our best to reconstruction it from the material available to us at present. Here’s hoping you give it a spin and love every moment of it.
