Memphis native Bobby Whitlock is the definition of what Sam & Dave called a "Soul Man." With the unique distinction of being a full-fledged member of the short-lived but astonishingly impactful Derek and the Dominos, Whitlock got his start as a teen hanging out at the Stax Records recording studios. That's where he got to jump in and add hand claps to the original recording of Sam & Dave's "I Thank You." Whitlock went on to join the band Delaney & Bonnie, who would be joined by none less that Eric Clapton on the road. That outfit's 1970 live release, On Tour with Eric Clapton, is the jumping off point for this engrossing conversation with show host Rich Mahan and the Rhino podcast. Tune in for the whole fantastic convo here.
