Doing a 180: Air, David Bowie, The Sisters of Mercy, and The Waterboys
Air, Moon Safari: You may recall our grand Air extravaganza last month, when we reissued pretty much everything in Air’s back catalog on 180-gram vinyl, but there was one notable omission from that last, and – you guessed it – this was it. Now that we’ve remedied that situation, you can go back and enjoy such classic Air tracks as “Sexy Boy,” “Kelly Watch the Stars,” and “All I Need.”
David Bowie, “Fame” 40th Anniversary 7” Picture Disc: The best thing about picture-disc singles is that they allow music geeks to defy the logic that they don’t need to own it because they already have the song. Yes, but do you have David Bowie’s “Fame” with this delightful picture on it? No, you don’t. But now you can.
The Sisters of Mercy, First and Last and Always: Hey, goth kids, this is your lucky week, because we’re reissuing this seminal album by The Sisters of Mercy as a four-LP affair. You’ve probably already figured that one of the LPs is, in fact, the actual LP, but as to the other three, those would be the Body and Soul, Walk Away, and No Time to Cry EPs. If there’s a better way to celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary that doesn’t involve a reunion of the band (because surely we can all agree that hell will freeze over before that happens), we don’t know what it would be.
The Waterboys, Fisherman’s Blues: Raise your hand if you don’t think that Fisherman’s Blues is the best album ever released by The Waterboys. Okay, now, if you just raised your hand, first of all, even though you’re allowed to have your own opinion, your opinion is wrong. Secondly, if you’d like confirmation that we know what we’re talking about, all you have to do is pick up this reissue, because it sounds amazing, and it’ll put you in the perfect frame of mind to say, “You were right.” Okay, stand down, you know we’re just joking, right? But this is the most acclaimed album in Mike Scott’s back catalog, so if you don’t own it, this is the perfect time to make that investment for your collection.
