Celebrity Hi-Five: John Lehr of Hulu’s Quick Draw
Here are five reasons you might recognize John Lehr:
1) If you’re a fan of director Noah Baumbach, you could have seen him in three – count ‘em – three of Baumbach’s films (Kicking and Screaming, Highball, and Mr. Jealousy), and if you’re a really big fan, you might even have spotted him in Baumbach’s short film, Conrad & Butler Take a Vacation.
2) Fans of NBC’s Must-See TV may recall that he played Christina Applegate’s brother on her late-‘90s sitcom, Jesse. 3) From 2006 to 2009, he played Leslie Pool, owner/manager of the grocery store Greens & Grains, on TBS’s mockumentary-style, improv-driven sitcom 10 Items or Less, which he also co-created and executive-produced. 4) In 2011, he joined forces with Crackle to co-create – along with his longtime writing partner, Nancy Hower – and star in the prison comedy JailBait, another improv-driven affair, this one about a guy who tries to buy marijuana for his cancer-stricken father, only to find himself caught up in a sting operation and put behind bars. 5) Since 2013, he’s been working for Hulu, starring as John Henry Hoyle, sheriff of Great Bend, Kansas in 1875, in the improv western comedy, Quick Draw, which kicked off its second season just last week.Watch the Quick Draw: Season Two trailer here:
And now that you either know why you recognize John Lehr or know where you can go to remedy your unfamiliarity with this very funny gentleman, here are five songs that the esteemed Mr. Lehr thinks you might enjoy listening to.
1. Dwight Yoakam, “I Want You to Want Me”
John Lehr: “Because he’s singing a Cheap Trick song. Enough said.”
2. Willie Nelson, “Shotgun Willie”
JL: “Willie Nelson is, without a doubt, a national treasure and singlehandedly helped marijuana to be decriminalized. Also, I think anyone who has their own name in a song should be lauded, i.e. ‘Hammertime.’”
3. Conway Twitty, “Slow Hand”
JL: “Many people have recorded this song. Why did I choose him? Because his name is Conway Twitty. Conway Twitty. Conway. Twitty.”
4. Emmylou Harris with Glen Campbell, “Cheatin’ Is”
JL: “Emmylou is freaking great, and Glen Campbell has had some rough times as of late. It’s been a long ride since ‘Rhinestone Cowboy.’ Hey, who hasn’t been arrested. Right?”
5. Kenny Rogers with Kim Carnes, “Don’t Fall in Love with a Dreamer”
JL: “This choice goes without saying. A terribly unlikely pair, but it works. Like bacon-flavored ice cream.“
