Album of the Day
Fleetwood Mac
A decade after their last studio album together, the classic '70s lineup of Fleetwood Mac reconvened for an MTV performance that premiered on this day in 1997. Released to record stores as THE DANCE, the album includes outstanding performances of such favorites as “Landslide,” “Go Your Own Way,” “Tusk” and “Don’t Stop” (the latter two accompanied by the USC Trojan Marching Band). But the Reprise collection goes beyond greatest hits territory to include then-unreleased songs by the band’s three principal writers (“Temporary One,” “Bleed To Love Her,” “Sweet Girl”). By any measure, the Mac magic was back; THE DANCE topped the Billboard chart, went 5-times-Platinum, earned 3 Grammy nominations and spawned a successful U.S. tour.
