Born on this day in 1938, Allen Toussaint was a songwriter and producer par excellence, whose name (or “Naomi Neville” pseudonym) can be found in the credits of Crescent City classics by Ernie K-Doe, Lee Dorsey, the Meters, Dr. John and many others. But Toussaint's own releases, if less well known, are just as distinctive and well-crafted, a fact borne out by THE COMPLETE WARNER RECORDINGS. The performer cut three superb solo albums for the label in the 1970s - SOUTHERN NIGHTS, LIFE, LOVE AND FAITH and MOTION, and they're here in their entirety on this double-disc Rhino Handmade set, along with 10 previously unreleased live tracks from the era.  As classy as it is funky, THE COMPLETE WARNER RECORDINGS is essential listening for any fan of New Orleans music.
