Album of the Day
THE BIRDS, THE BEES & THE MONKEES
About a month after the last episode of The Monkees' television series was broadcast, THE BIRDS, THE BEES & THE MONKEES reached stores. While the foursome may have bade farewell to TV stardom, they were still firing on all cylinders as recording artists and the band's fifth album featured a diverse selection of songs reflecting the guys' individual styles. The 1968 set's biggest singles spotlighted Davy – the smash “Daydream Believer” and the Boyce-Hart-penned “Valleri” - but there's also Mike's country-flavored “Tapioca Tundra” and the Micky-sung “Zor And Zam” (which was featured on that final TV episode). THE BIRDS, THE BEES & THE MONKEES reached #3 on the Billboard chart, eventually going Platinum, and it remains a menagerie of wonderful music.
