Soft rock of the 1970s rarely gets critical respect, but one listen to the music of Bread will have you singing the style's praises. It's hard not to sing when you cue up any of the L.A. quartet's poignant, melodic hits, and the 1973 Elektra release THE BEST OF BREAD featured a dozen of them, including David Gates-penned Top Ten singles “Everything I Own,” “It Don't Matter To Me,” “If,” “Baby I'm-a Want You” and “Make It With You.” The set was a multi-Platinum smash, prompting a follow-up with such further favorites as “The Guitar Man,” “Aubrey,” and “Sweet Surrender.” Rhino’s reissue of THE BEST OF BREAD includes the cream of that second collection to create the ultimate single volume sampler of the group's mellow but highly memorable output.
