Album of the Day
STOMPIN AT THE SAVOY
Before Chaka Khan went solo for good, she rejoined Rufus for a string of February 1982 shows at famed New York venue The Savoy. Released the following year on Warner Bros., the double LP STOMPIN’ AT THE SAVOY – LIVE includes three sides of highlights from the 3-night engagement plus a studio side. As electrifying versions of old favorites (“Tell Me Something Good,” “Sweet Thing”) and Khan’s recent “What Cha' Gonna Do for Me” make clear, these concerts brought out the best in the band. The four new Russ Titelman-produced studio cuts, including “Don't Go to Strangers” and the Grammy-winning R&B chart-topper “Ain't Nobody,” are also impressive. STOMPIN’ AT THE SAVOY would be the final album from Rufus, and we’ll give it a spin now in honor of Black Music Month.
