Nanci Griffith
Texas-born singer-songwriter Nanci Griffith has been winning fans with an engaging mix of folk and country since the late 1970s. She made her Elektra Records debut with OTHER VOICES, OTHER ROOMS, a 17-track tribute to some of her favorite writers and performers – many of whom joined Griffith in the studio. The long list of guests includes guitarists Chet Atkins and Leo Kottke, vocalists Emmylou Harris, Iris DeMent and John Prine (whose “Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness” became the album's single) and Bob Dylan on harmonica on “Boots Of Spanish Leather.” The star-studded 1993 set picked up a Best Contemporary Folk Album Grammy; Jim Rooney, who'd helmed a couple of Griffith's earlier albums, also won a Grammy for his production work here. This is Nanci Griffith's birthday, and the hour of beautiful music on OTHER VOICES, OTHER ROOMS is the perfect way to celebrate it.
