Harry Chapin
Few singer-songwriters made music more inviting and insightful than Harry Chapin, and his talent shines from the first notes of HEADS & TALES, his 1972 solo debut. Cut for Elektra Records (with label founder Jac Holzman handling production), the collection captures the relaxed intimacy of the performer's live act with a small backing group on nine originals. As suggested by the “tales” in the title, Chapin proves a masterful storyteller on such emotion-laden songs as “Greyhound,” “Any Old Kind Of Day” and signature song “Taxi,” which reached #24 on the Billboard singles chart despite its near-7-minute length. Harry Chapin was born on this day in 1942, and we'll remember the troubadour with the superb HEADS & TALES.
