Album of the Day
HARVEST MOON
HARVEST had been one of Neil Young’s most popular albums; fans eager for a sequel were rewarded some 20 years later with HARVEST MOON. “It just happened again, whatever it was that happened back then. But only because the songs made me do it,” said the performer of the 1992 Reprise set, which features instrumental accompaniment by The Stray Gators, who’d also played on the original collection in 1972. Fellow HARVEST alums James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt (along with the great Nicolette Larson) provide backing vocals, but it’s the wistful beauty of the material as much as the personnel that recalls that earlier classic. With “Unknown Legend,” “From Hank to Hendrix” and the title track among the highlights, HARVEST MOON won the Juno Award for album of the year in Young’s native Canada. The singer-songwriter became a U.S. citizen on this day in 2020 and we’re honored to have him!
