Album of the Day
Garage Inc.
After what Lars Ulrich called "three pretty serious albums in a row,” Metallica was determined to do something a little different when it entered Sausalito's The Plant studio in late 1998 to create GARAGE INC. An all-covers set, the collection pairs a disc of new recordings with a disc of B-sides, one-offs and the long-out-of-print “$5.98 E.P. – Garage Days Re-Revisited.” As a tribute to some of the group members' favorite artists, it's no surprise that British new-wave-of-heavy-metal bands are well represented here, but what is a revelation is how the quartet can transform songs from such varied sources as Bob Seger, Nick Cave and Lynyrd Skynyrd into something distinctly, thrillingly Metallica. Garnering a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance, GARAGE INC. was a 5x Platinum hit and is a must-have for any fan of the band.
