Jefferson Starship

As Jefferson Airplane’s flight concluded, members Grace Slick and Paul Kantner regrouped as Jefferson Starship, debuting with DRAGON FLY. Recorded at Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco following a tour, the 1974 collection was the strongest Airplane-related release in years, bolstered by Papa John Creach’s distinctive electric violin work and new lead guitarist Craig Chaquico. Along with outstanding performances, there were some fine songs as well, including single “Ride the Tiger,” sci-fi epic “Hyperdrive” and ballad “Caroline,” which featured Slick & Kantner’s former bandmate Marty Balin (who would board the Starship full-time with their next album). The Gold-certified DRAGON FLY now sounds better than ever as part of Rhino’s Quadio series on blu-ray audio.
