The Black Keys
Dan Auerbach's solo album and Patrick Carney's marital difficulties threatened to drive The Black Keys apart in 2009, but BROTHERS brought the duo back together. The Nonesuch set also brought the famous Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama out of retirement, and the 15 songs here offer a contemporary take on gritty Southern R&B and garage-rock. Singles “Tighten Up” and “Howlin' For You” both reached gold sales status, and the collection as a whole went platinum and brought The Black Keys three Grammys including Best Alternative Music Album. Drummer Patrick Carney turns 35 today, and we'll celebrate the birthday with his band's commercial breakthrough, BROTHERS.
