Born Jasmine van den Bogaerde, Birdy had a U.K. hit to her credit by age 14, and you can hear her precocious talent blossom on BEAUTIFUL LIES. “The album is about growing up and not accepting change,” noted the performer. “It's about not really wanting to grow up; it's about lying to yourself.” Yet from the opening track, it's clear that Birdy's confidence as both singer, songwriter and pianist has grown significantly since her previous album, and the collection's Asian-influenced indie pop has drawn comparisons to Lorde. Singles “Keeping Your Head Up,” “Wild Horses,” “Words” and “Hear You Calling” reflect the variety of this set, which reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Alternative, Rock and Folk charts. BEAUTIFUL LIES was released 5 years ago, and we'll cue it up now in anticipation of Birdy's fourth album due next month.
