While Bread is best known for many classic singles, BABY I’M-A WANT YOU – which Allmusic called their best album – shows why your music collection shouldn’t stop with a best-of by the group. Of course, singer-songwriter David Gates (who also produced this 1972 set) can be counted on for several outstanding ballads, including Top 10 hits “Everything I Own” and the title track. But there’s also a muscular side to such songs as “Mother Freedom” and “Dream Lady” that will be a pleasant surprise to fans of the soft-rockers. Bread’s first album with keyboardist Larry Knechtel, the Gold-certified BABY I’M-A WANT YOU has recently been re-released as part of Rhino’s QUADIO series.
