Album of the Day
ALL DAY MUSIC
On this day in 1972, TV concert program The Midnight Special premiered, and War performed on that first-ever episode. The band was still riding high on the success of ALL DAY MUSIC, a Gold-certified R&B Top Tenner from the previous year that spent more than 30 weeks on the Billboard chart. “I'm beginning to find that their slow groove has a winning depth of character,” said critic Robert Christgau of the group’s second post-Eric Burdon set and its inviting blend of soul, rock, Latin and jazz will have you nodding in agreement. If the title track, the live “Baby Brother” (later revisited on DELIVER THE WORD) and hit single “Slippin' into Darkness” are the obvious highlights, the album is strong throughout - ALL DAY MUSIC ranks with War’s finest.
