Tina Turner
Drawing its name from her role in the big-screen version of The Who’s rock opera TOMMY, Tina Turner’s ACID QUEEN showcases one of music’s most electrifying performers. Released at the tail end of her marriage, the vocalist’s second solo album includes a side of songs written and produced by Ike Turner, with a strong R&B feel highlighted on single “Baby, Get It On.” The other side will appeal to U.K. rock fans with commanding covers of classics from The Rolling Stones (“Under My Thumb”), Led Zeppelin (”Whole Lotta Love”) and The Who (the title track, in a different version from the film soundtrack). The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was born on this day in 1939 – all hail the ACID QUEEN!
