Album of the Day
HARVEST
By the early 1970s, Canadian-born performer Neil Young was the toast of the American rock scene. Stints with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash displayed his songwriting talents to fine effect, and solo singles like “Cinnamon Girl” showed off his powerful axework. But HARVEST added a new piece to the puzzle – Young could turn the volume down and draw listeners in with his gentle voice and acoustic guitar. The introspective “Heart Of Gold” became Neil's first No.1 single and on this day in 1972, the collection stood at the top of the U.S. & U.K. album charts. Several other songs on the set - “A Man Needs A Maid,” “The Needle And The Damage Done” and “Old Man” - are equally distinctive, making HARVEST one of Neil Young's all-time best.
