What is HD DVD?

HD DVD is a new optical disc format that stands for High-Density Digital Versatile Disc. It uses a different kind of laser and higher rotation speed than regular DVDs, which allows for more data density per disc. In a nutshell, HD DVD delivers six-times the resolution of normal DVDs, three-times the soundtrack information, enhanced interactivity, and more bonus content. HD DVDs will only play on an HD DVD player, which will also play your normal DVDs. It's as close to the theater as you'll get without stepping in something sticky.
