Ben E. King - The Very Best Of Ben E. King (Greatest Hits)
BEN E. KING
The Very Best Of Ben E. King (Greatest Hits)

The physical version of this title is not currently available for sale on Rhino.com

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 with The Drifters, legendary R&B/pop/soul vocalist Ben E. King went on to solo stardom as well. This must-have, 16-song, single-disc overview of many of his greatest tracks spans both eras of his extraordinary career.

Ahmet Ertegun once called The Drifters, “the all-time greatest Atlantic group,” and King originally rose to fame in the late '50s as their second lead singer (following Clyde McPhatter) with smashes including “There Goes My Baby” and “Save The Last Dance For Me.” The latter is the only Drifters single to top both Billboard's pop and R&B charts-both are featured here along with other definitive Drifters sides including “This Magic Moment” and “Dance With Me.”

Solo hits include the Top 10 single “Spanish Harlem,” “Amor,” and “I (Who Have Nothing).” No King collection would be complete with out his immortal take on the Leiber-Stoller classic “Stand By Me,” a #1 R&B/#4 pop hit for the singer. It's a masterful vocal performance and timeless recording that's also #121 on Rolling Stone's list of the “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.”
