Blues Masters: The Very Best Of Lightnin' Hopkins

Blues Masters: The Very Best Of Lightnin' Hopkins

Born Sam Hopkins in Centerville, Texas, March 15, 1912, guitarist/singer Lightnin’ Hopkins was a favoriate of country blues fans during the 1940s and ’50s, and found a whole new audience of college kids in the 1960s. A true pioneer of contemporary American music, Hopkins was not only a direct link to the rural blues tradition but also an enormously influential figure in the transition from country to city blues during the ’50s and ’60s. Author of more than 600 songs, Lightnin’ began recording in 1946 for Aladdin Records and cut sides for dozens of other labels over the next three decades. Hopkins remained active as a performer right up to his death of cancer in January 1982, and thanks to his prodigious body of recorded work, his musical legend will endure for years to come. Blues Masters: The Very Best Of Lightnin’ Hopkins features the legendary master of the country blues laying his mojo hand on 16 sides spanning 1946-1961.
