In early 2004, Pryor's wife Jennifer granted Rhino access to nearly 40 hours of raw, unedited tapes recorded at gigs during the mid-to-late '60s. The best of these formative performances appear on Disc 1 of this unprecedented collection. Disc 2 picks up following Pryor's return to the stage in 1971, with his newfound voice on full display. Included are the seminal "Craps" (After Hours) in its entirety, and previously unreleased tracks recorded over the next two years. The set concludes with a rare 1974 interview with Rolling Stone's David Felton.
In case you're wondering, with the exception of "Prison Play," none of these 65 tracks appear on the Rhino boxed set And It's Deep Too! The Complete Warner Bros. Recordings (1968-1992). This is fresh stuff, y'all.
