 Arguably the most iconic rock star ever, Mick Jagger has gathered no moss during his intervals off from fronting The Rolling Stones. On THE VERY BEST OF MICK JAGGER, his distinguished solo work is compiled and examined for the first time ever on an anthology spanning over thirty years of highlights, with all tracks selected by Jagger himself. The package also includes in-depth liner notes by music journalist Robin Eggar. 

 The single-CD song retrospective reaches as far back as 1970 to include the Jagger/Richards-penned classic “Memo From Turner” that Mick recorded - without his Glimmer Twin Keith Richards - for the soundtrack to the 1970 cult film Performance, in which he also starred. The most recent track, “Old Habits Die Hard,” also points to Jagger's film career - it first appeared on the soundtrack (produced by Jagger and former Eurythmic Dave Stewart) of the 2004 film Alfie, and it won a Golden Globe Award for “Best Original Song.” 

 Other highlights include three previously unreleased songs, two of which are demos from the Rick Rubin-produced sessions for Jagger's '93 solo LP Wandering Spirit. One of them, “Charmed Life,” features Mick's daughter Karis on backing vocals, and was remixed for this collection by producer Ashley Beedle. The other, a rousing take on Sonny Boy Williamson's “Checkin' Up On My Baby,” came out of a day spent jamming with L.A. blues band The Red Devils. Dating back 20 years earlier, the third track making its recording debut is “Too Many Cooks (Spoil The Soup).” Produced by John Lennon, it was cut in Los Angeles in 1973 with a stellar backing band including guitarists Danny Kortchmar and Jesse Ed Davis, keyboardist Al Kooper, bassist Jack Bruce, drummer Jim Keltner and Harry Nilsson on background vocals.  

 Also featured are two hit collaborations on classic Motown songs, including Jagger and Peter Tosh sending up The Temptations' hit “(You Got To Walk And) Don't Look Back,” recorded for Tosh's 1978 album Bush Doctor (on Rolling Stones Records). Jagger's 1985 duet with David Bowie on “Dancing In The Street” - originally immortalized by Martha and the Vandellas - was released as a single as part of Live Aid's fundraising campaign (the memorable video premiered at the Philadelphia Live Aid concert). 

 The balance of the album's seventeen tracks are pulled from Jagger's four solo albums - She's The Boss (1985), Primitive Cool (1987), Wandering Spirit (1993), and Goddess In The Doorway (2001). Highlights include “God Gave Me Everything,” which Jagger cowrote with Lenny Kravitz; “Joy,” on which Bono contributes a guest vocal, and the hit singles “Let's Work,” “Just Another Night,” “Lucky In Love” and “Sweet Thing.”
