 It is with great pride that Warner Classics releases this 6-Cd box set of Maria Callas: First Official Recordings on Fonit Cetra. Hear here are the early Wagner and Bellini recordings from 1949, the first of two Ponchielli La Giocondas recorded by Callas (1952), and the only studio recording she made of Verdi's La Traviata (1953). 

 Callas was the soprano who was ready to tackle Wagner yesterday, Turandot today, Verdi's Aida or La forza del destino tomorrow, Norma the next day and so on, exploring the whole repertoire with the greatest versatility. She was indeed a “phenomenon”. Audiences did not need to wait for the premature end of her career, or even her farewell to life itself, to be aware of Callas's greatness or the impact of her historical interpretations
