LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE FABULOUS STAINSLadies And Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains$19.95 DVD
Rhino puts out! The first title in Rhino's Rock 'N' Roll Cinema Series, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE FABULOUS STAINS, is a cult favorite that received only an extremely limited theatrical release in 1981. Since then, it has surfaced occasionally (at best) at film festivals and on TV, but has never been released on home video or DVD - until now. With Rhino's revival of this lost classic about a trio of misfit teenaged girls who start a punk band and find nationwide fame - a tale that inspired a generation of female rockers including Bikini Kill, L7 and Courtney Love - an infamous film is finally ready for its close up. Notably, the movie spotlights a sexy, surly fifteen-year old Diane Lane in one of her first starring roles, and she's unforgettable as The Stains lead singer and archetypal “riot grrl” Corinne Burns. Sporting an eye-popping skunk hairdo, she sings songs including "I'm A Waste Of Time," verbally assaults the audience and leads her adoring female fans in the chant, “We don't put out!” Laura Dern is a Stains band mate, and Steve Jones and Paul Cook of The Sex Pistols, Clash bassist Paul Simonon, Fee Waybill of the Tubes and Black Randy from Black Randy and The Metrosquad are among the real life musicians with roles in the film. Cast members also include David Clennon, Christine Lahti and Ray Winstone. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE FABULOUS STAINS was directed the legendary record producer and music business manager Lou Adler, whose other directorial feature film credit is Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke. The title's DVD debut features the film restored from original vault elements as well as special new audio commentaries from Adler, Diane Lane and Laura Dern.
