Clearlake are from the English seaside city of Brighton. Writer types have taken to describing their textured, often melancholy guitar rock as distinctively English. Sure, it works as shorthand, but it doesn’t particularly please Clearlake, who say their songs are born of universal emotions and border-crossing influences. Greeted with accolades in the U.K. upon the release of their 2001 debut, Lido, Clearlake got stateside attention with 2003’s moody and eclectic Cedars, released on Domino Records. Their latest offering is Wonder If The Snow Will Settle, an EP filled with U.K. remixes and b-sides, including a cover of Neil Young’s “Cinnamon Girl.” In this exclusive audio interview, rock journalist/Rhino.com contributor Nevin Martell speaks with singer/guitarist Jason Pegg. Watch out folks, they get political.

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

A word about submissions: We post what you give us, so please don't include your email address or any personal info. Your comments reach Rhino, not necessarily the writer, so don't expect a reply from them (or us, see our help section for contact info). We gather and post your submissions in batches, so do expect a short delay. And don't get bent if we edit your comments. We probably won't, but we reserve that right.
