Now Available: Bowie at the BEEB and Five Years’ individual albums

The stars have looked very different since January 10, and even though it’s been almost two months since David Bowie left the capsule and stepped through the door, as it were, the sensation of loss still remains significant. (For proof, you need look no farther than the speeches given by Annie Lennox and Gary Oldman during the BRIT Awards’ tribute to Bowie on February 24. Both of them sounded very much like they were on the verge of tears at various points.) Thankfully, if there’s one way that mourning Bowie fans can consistently find solace, it’s by listening to the music he left behind. Even in those moments where we’re stricken by the awareness that there’s to be no more of it, it generally only takes a moment more to be caught up in the feeling of gratitude that he left us as much of it to enjoy as he did.

On that note, you’ll remember that Rhino issued the Five Years (1969-1973) box set last year. If you were excited about the general existence of the set but mildly disgruntled that you wanted certain albums but not all of them…well, we’ll give you a pass on that, even though we really do think that there’s merit to everything that contained therein, but we also come bearing news that’ll make you very happy if you’re one of those folks: we’ve just issued the following albums from the set individually on 180-gram vinyl:

But that, as they say, ain’t all: we’ve also just come forth with a 180-gram vinyl version of Bowie at the Beeb. It’s not a small set – it’s a 40-track, four-LP set that comes in a lift-off lid box and features a full-color 20-page booklet – but it’s an absolute must-own for Bowie-philes, offering a couple of renditions that you might not have heard before: a version of “Oh! You Pretty Things” taken from the Sounds of the ‘70s Bob Harris session of September 1971, and a version of “The Supermen” which was recorded during the Sounds of the ‘70s Andy Ferris session of March 1970.
