The Pogues
One of the greatest groups ever to emerge from Ireland, The Pogues infused that country's musical traditions with an anarchic punk rock spirit to create something entirely new. On the band's 1984 debut, RED ROSES FOR ME, old Irish songs like “Waxie's Dargle” are given fiery new life, while originals like “Transmetropolitan” and “Streams Of Whiskey” mark frontman Shane McGowan as a writer to watch. The expanded edition of the album adds six single B-sides as bonus tracks, including an early version of “And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda.” Today we'll break out both green shamrocks and RED ROSES FOR ME in honor of St. Patrick's Day!
